The VMDPA club was founded in 1979 by a group of gold prospectors who wanted to share a common hobby detecting in the bush and a family atmosphere with social events like BBQs, Christmas dinners, competitions and other events.

Throughout the years, we’ve shared helpful pointers on how to use different detectors and other useful gadgets as well as local histories- we’ve even had musicians in the group play bagpipes or guitars- all around the friendly atmosphere of a campfire.

Sometimes we get lucky and find a nice nugget, sometimes an old-timer’s button or nail, but we always enjoy the exercise and fresh air out in the bush with friends.

We take field trips to the many detecting areas around The Golden Triangle every month and the club has a bi-monthly newsletter with any updates, info, maps, etc.

Our club has lost many members during its decades due to old age or illness, but despite our smaller numbers, we’re still soldiering on and welcome new members of all ages- let’s keep this fascinating hobby alive 🙂
